This is a vibrant beach with many restaurants and shops. There are also Ayurvedic spas in the area.

Dewata

Dewata this is a cozy family beach where kids and adults alike can learn to surf. A good place to park yourself is at casual, friendly The Shack Beach Cafe.

Habaraduwa and Kabalana

These beaches are expansive, great for walking and enjoying sand-side dining.

Ahangama and Weligama

Long, white sand beaches, popular for surfing and cozy restaurants.

Mirissa

Galle Fort

The Portuguese, Dutch and British all settled here leaving a rich visual architectural legacy which intermingles with Sri Lanka’s own diverse religious and cultural heritage.  Sri Lanka was a way station along vibrate trade routes over the millennia. The old Dutch warehouse is now home to the Galle Maritime Archaeological Museum, well worth a visit.  Galle Fort boasts a variety of shops and restaurants with local and international crafts and cuisine.

Udawalawe National Park

 a few hours away by car, Udawalawe National Park is home to the largest herd of Asian elephants on the island. Either take a day trip or spend the night in one of the nearby safari camps. We can help you make arrangements.

Arugam Bay

A 1 1/2 hour trip from Ella takes you to Arugam Bay, home of the serious surfer. Surf schools will have you up on the board in no time.

Yala National Park

Located in the more remote southeast region of the country, Yala has the largest population of leopards in Sri Lanka.  There are a number of attractions near the park including the Kataragama temple complex area originally sacred to the Indigenous animist Vedda people and later adopted by Buddhists, Hindus and Muslims. 

Ella

Known for spectacular scenery and tea plantations, Ella and the surrounding area is worth an excursion. Plan your route to travel by car from Galle or extend from Yala, or come from Ella to Galle after taking the train to the Ella area. A Sri Lankan train journey is a rite of passage for adventurous travellers. 

Yatagala

Yatagala, a 2,400-year-old ‘mini Dambulla’ cave temple with a bodhi tree, reclining Buddha and colourful paintings is 1 km away from Skylight House.
